China's first 3.0T high-field magnetic resonance equipment was launched

For a long time, the manufacture of high-field magnetic resonance medical imaging equipment's components and complete machines have been monopolized by American and German companies. On the 3rd 2021, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People.

At the meeting, the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital, the Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University and Shanghai United Imaging Medical Technology Co., Ltd. jointly completed the “independent development and industrialization of high-field magnetic resonance medical imaging equipment". The project won the "First Prize of the 2020 National Science and Technology Progress Award".

The project has broken through a series of core key technologies such as spectrometer, radio frequency power amplifier, gradient power amplifier, gradient coil, radio frequency transmitting coil, superconducting magnet, etc., and successfully developed China’s first 3.0T high-field magnetic resonance equipment, and realized the manufacturing and integration of the whole machine. Application has filled the domestic gap. After the United States and Germany, China became the third country to achieve independent research and development of all core components of high-field magnetic resonance.

The project has obtained 147 intellectual property rights, including 124 invention patents and 11 US patents. It broke through the international intellectual property barriers and built a complete independent intellectual property system.

According to reports, MRI is known as the "jewel in the crown of cutting-edge medical equipment", a "weapon" for imaging diagnosis of many major diseases such as cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, nerve, and tumor, and is regarded as an important symbol of modern medical treatment. High-field magnetic resonance can make clinical diagnosis more accurate, and can also provide fine structure and functional imaging for major cutting-edge scientific research such as brain science. However, the research and development of magnetic resonance involves a wide range of disciplines, the technical system is sophisticated and complex, and the research and development is extremely difficult. The "barriers" for high-field magnetic resonance research and development are particularly high.

Today, magnetic resonance equipment has entered nearly a thousand medical institutions across the country, including hundreds of Class-A hospitals. The domestic market share of domestic MRI increased from 14% in 2013 to 41%. These "made in China" are also exported to the United States, Europe and other countries and regions, breaking the "dominance of the world" pattern of European and American multinational companies in this field for more than 30 years.

The industrialization and clinical application of MRI have also greatly reduced the prices of imported similar products, bringing benefits to the people, making high-field MRI equipment accessible and affordable to more domestic patients, and escorting people's lives and health.
